DON’T JUST MAKE A RESOLUTION, MAKE A CHANGE!
HERE’S HOW!
By Amy D. Cohen
Every year we make resolutions. Things we are finally going to change to make our lives better and to feel better, right? I’m going to lose twenty pounds, stop drinking or drugging, look for a new job, stop smoking, the list goes on and on. And if you think back, you may have had the same resolution last year, and even the year before that!
We are creatures of habit and it is hard to change our routine. When we live in the same routine day in and day out, we naturally fall back to what we know, even if we don’t like it because change can be difficult. So what can you do to finally create the steps necessary to achieving the life changes you want to make for yourself. Well, forget the stupid resolution, it just makes us feel bad about ourselves. Think in a new direction. Get excited, find your inner passion, heres how.
1. CREATE GOALS – REAL GOALS
What do you want to accomplish for yourself and/or your family over the course of the next year. You want to quit smoking – ok, by what date and what is the plan? Chunk it down. For instance -maybe you want to cut down to half a pack by a certain date, then another five cigarettes down by a certain date….and so on. What will be the date that you will completely quit and How will you reward yourself?
If its finances- how much would you like to make next year and how do you propose to get there? Send resumes out with the goal of a new job by a certain date (give yourself at least 6 months); or go to school for a certain career choice (that may be more than one year – but its the change you made that counts!), get a second job, sell something you make – figure out your plan of action and when you want to be moving forward by.
Remember that you can only control what you do (resumes, research, etc) – you cannot control others when it comes to interviews, etc. – its out of your hands. The goal is to begin and do what you need to do. Write it out, figure out dates, figure out your plan.
2. WHAT ARE YOUR WHYS
What is the payoff by you achieving these goals? Who else does it affect? How will it make you feel? How will you reward yourself by achieving this goal? What are your reasons – health, happiness, are you getting married and want a certain goal weight? Do you want to do it for yourself or your family. In order to succeed, you have to really understand your whys, and the outcome you will benefit from.
3. JOIN A GROUP
Walking groups, business groups, networking, meditation, acting….there is every type of group out there full of people that share the same wants and goals. Join them. When you are part of a group you are more apt to stay on task. You also can mastermind together ideas on how to move forward and achieve goals. There will be so many ideas flying around that you would never have been able to come up with on your own.
3. GET AN ACCOUNTABILITY PARTNER
It can be a friend, a family member, someone from a group you have joined. Someone that you can talk to daily or a few times a week to help you reach your goals. Its tough to say you did not perform a task when you have a partner to tell that too. Having an accountability partner moves you further along helping you to reach your goals. Don’t forget when working with a partner to share what your end result goals are and by what date. Then you chunk it down week by week on what you want to accomplish for that week. It could be anything from cleaning and organizing a closet to emptying out your pantry of anything unhealthy and replace it with specific foods.
4. WHAT ARE FLOWER REMEDIES FOR POSITIVITY AND GOAL SUCCESS
Soul Medicine, flower remedies are extracts that come from plants from all over the world that target our emotional and mental state of mind. We use them for anything from getting you back to your confident self to finally getting rid of anxiety; to helping you with motivation and staying true to your goals and actually moving you from a negative to a positive state of mind. They are used for emotional well being. We are all hit with pebbles and boulders in our life that can change who we are and even change our story. Flower remedies put us back on our path to emotional well being. They are well known throughout Europe and starting to take hold in the U.S.
You need commitment to your goals – take Wedding Bush from Australian Bush Flower Remedies; need confidence – take Larch from Bach; want to change your negative habit patterns take Bottlebrush from Australian Bush Flower Essences; want to feel peace inside use Daisy from Findhorn Flower Remedies and Kapok Bush from Australian Bush for not giving up. There are many flower remedies from all over the world. Just make sure you use reputable brands.
5. AFFIRMATIONS
Place positive affirmations throughout your home, car and office. When you go into your bathroom in the morning, have your end goal on the mirror with a “you can do it” on it! Take pics of yourself reaching milestones and share it on social media with your friends and family.
Make the commitment to your change if you really want it. It will truly change your world. A goal accomplished leads to another and another and next thing you know you are living life happy! Happiness comes from accomplishments and purpose. If you are thinking about going to the doctor for medication for depression, try this first. Life is about purpose and we reach it one goal at a time. If you can do these goals, you can do anything! And when you achieve your goals, your life automatically becomes full of confidence which sets something amazing in motion.
Life is about motion, always moving forwards. When you become complacent and don’t make changes, you eventually lose confidence in yourself and a little more time goes by and you become depressed. Listen to your soul sharing with you that its time to move forward, positive motion. Start reaching the small goals so you can reach the large goals. Notice how each small goal lifts your spirits, lifts you higher. When you have a goal, its a purpose. When you have a purpose and you start moving towards it you become enthusiastic, you begin to feel a passion and an excitement. Notice this feeling. Making this change for yourself this year will create a roller coaster of change, transition, passion and joy for you you have probably not felt in years!
